On December 3 and 4 in San Francisco, CA, the first annual NMAC National PrEP Summit was called together. Over 600 providers, community members, researchers, and people living with HIV came together to look at what’s been happening and what needs to happen in the U.S. around PrEP utilization, services, and education.

At the Summit, all workshops, sessions, and conversations were centered around PrEP, or pre-exposure prophylaxis, a one-a-day pill that, when taken as prescribed, can completely stop the spread of HIV.

Other discussions included how to get PrEP to those who need it most, PrEP in the body, and PrEP engagement and uptake in specific communities, such as heterosexual women and men, Black and Latino communities, transpersons, youth, and gay and bisexual men.

Black Treatment Advocates Network Los Angeles (BTAN LA) has programs, such as the Peer Mentor program, that link individuals to HIV testing and treatment and needed essential services, including PrEP. The Peer Mentor program of BTAN LA looks at ways to educate, support, and navigate through HIV treatment and prevention options, like PrEP. Through BTAN LA,
